Splitting contents of one field into two.

I noticed in the Anki discussion that they talk about this topic, but refer any questions about actually splitting the contents to this discussion group.
Let's say I have a field with the following

I want to put "tough" into a field English Word.
I want to put [*.*] into a field Audio.
After exporting to a text editor, how can I accomplish this.

If you have one (and only one) audio for every note (and there is no notes without audio) and you haven't symbol [ somewhere except for audio-tag ([sound:audio.mp3]), then in a text editor you could replace [ to (tab)[ and import result back to Anki. With regexp on in the replace options It is usually something like:
    Replace with:[\t
(but it all depends on a text editor you use).

    If you either:

    • have more than one audio per note
    • have some notes without audio
    • have [ not only for audio-tags

IMHO, the easiest way is to:

    1. import text into a spreadsheet program
    2. copy a column which has word[sound:audio.mp3] into a text editor and to do replacement like mentioned above.
    3. copy result back to the spreadsheet (tab as separator, so text must go into two columns)
    4. rearrange what you have in the spreadsheet so right data would be it the right column, save file
    5. import file to Anki.

    Things to be checked:

    Before exporting to text:

    1. content in the first field is unique for each note (Exporting Text, Duplicates and Updating)
    2. you have backup of your collection

Before importing edited text to Anki:

    1. your note type has enough fields (the number of columns in the CSV (text) file should correspond to the number of fields of the note type).
    2. in import window fields from file are mapped to fields of note in the right order; Update existing notes when first field matches is checked.
