USB drives on a Mac
This is a different issue from https://anki.tenderapp.com/discussions/ankidesktop/6212-anki-wont-s...
If for some reason you want to put the Anki executable on Mac somewhere other than /Applications, make sure you put it in an HFS+ file system.
I am short on space, so I put it on a USB drive. Since the USB drive is used on both Windows and Mac, it is FAT32. Launch Anki from there, and it will not run. Runs fine from an HFS+ formatted SD card.
Another trick: Just leave it in the original DMG. Open the DMG, and create a symlink to the Anki app in it. When you launch the symlink, if the DMG isn't mounted, Mac OS automatically mounts it and then launches Anki. The DMG is half the size of the expanded app.
