Am I on the right track with Notes and Card Types?
Hello,
I'm sure that this must have been answered many times before, and I have taken a quick look through the discussions, but there is so much material that it's a bit overwhelming. If someone could point me to a relevant discussion, I would really appreciate it.
I'm setting up a language-learning deck. I created a Note with several Fields e.g.
English Written
English Spoken
Target Language Written
Target Language Spoken
Target Language Phonetic Transcription
Then I created several Card Types e.g.
English Written to Target Language Spoken
English Written to Target Language Written
English Spoken to Target Language Written
Target Language Spoken to English Spoken
Target Language Spoken to Target Language Written
Now, if I want to just practise one of these Card Types on a certain day, for example "Target Language Spoken to English Spoken", what's the best way to isolate the cards of only that Card Type?
How about if I want to move on to the Card Type "English Spoken to Target Language Spoken", but I only want to see those cards which I've already memorized using the previous Card Type ("Target Language Spoken to English Spoken")?
And so on. That's to say that I'm looking for a way of enforcing a learning progression from recognition to production, first orally and then the same progression using written forms. I don't want to see an "English Spoken to Target Language Written" card (vocabulary item) until I've already memorized that vocabulary item in all the "easier" Card Types in the learning progression.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help,
Steven

your design looks good.
If I understand it correctly the order of introduction of cards from a note type is determined by their order in the card types window. If you have these card types in this order:
then you should see "3" only after "1" and "2" have been introduced. See https://anki.tenderapp.com/discussions/ankidesktop/24141-anki-seems...
As far as I see you only need
- set that new cards are shown in order (and not random), see https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#new-cards - "sibling burying" (see https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#siblings-and-burying )
?
in general I think this is one of the most important parts of the manual: https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#searching
