Please rename the prefs and prefs21 files in your data folder, then try opening Anki again. Does that help? https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#file-locations

    Hi Damien,

I was unclear what to rename them, I renamed them Dan and Dan21. When I went to reopen anki prefs21 was recreated in the folder, see below:

    Hi Dan,

It's normal for the file to come back, but I gather that didn't resolve the failure to start?
Does deleting the gldriver file make any difference?

    Hi Damien,

No it did not resolve the failure.

Deleting gldriver got me to the stage where I could select the required language however I then received this error.

Does setting that file to angle make any difference? https://apps.ankiweb.net/docs/knownissues21.html#hardware-accelerat...

    Hi Damien,

I opened the command prompt and pasted the below:

    echo auto > %APPDATA%\Anki2\gldriver

    Nothing seemed to happen.

I wasnt sure then how to change to angle?

    Thanks,
    Dan

Please change 'auto' to 'angle' in that line, then try again.
