You may be able to restore from an automatic backup:

The standard scheduler can not preserve cards that are in learning mode when suspending. The new scheduler can:

    The Anki 2.1 scheduler

    Hi Damien,

I saw on the anki 2.1 scheduler link you sent me that switching the scheduler will empty all filtered decks and reset any cards that are in learning. would i have to switch to the new scheduler and then restore from an automatic backup?

@Damien It would be helpful to note that the same rule applies to Buried cards.

    Quote from Manual:
"If cards were in learning when they are buried, they are moved back to the new card queue or review queue prior to being buried. "

PS. This is not as clear as the note about suspended card.

PPS. Would you consider warning the user beforehand ?

    Thank you.

Nick: restoring from a backup would have you back with the 2.0 scheduler.

Vit: I'd rather focus on making the new scheduler the default than invest more time in the old scheduler
