Cant make Anki talk to Ankiweb

I bought Anki in 2018 but lost interest for years, until I started using Ankiweb again recently. However, my original Anki has no resemblance to my current Ankiweb decks, and I'd like to unite them - with everything resembling my ankiweb decks. Any ideas please?

If you sync and choose 'download', it will grab your content from AnkiWeb: https://docs.ankiweb.net/#/syncing?id=setup

    Hi Damien

I've tried this but it comes up with a failure message with lots of
code, and then wants me to set up a free account.   Trouble is that I
already have both paid and free accounts   The uptodate one is on
AnkiWeb, whereas the Anki one only has decks I downloaded when I first
bought Anki.   Ideally, I'd get rid of them and only use the decks on
    Ankiweb.

Another thing is that I have no idea what password I would have used
    back then.

    Thanks in advance

Can you copy-paste here the error messages/code? Can you provide some screenshots for illustration?

@kate.saw, just go to https://ankiweb.net/account/login and click reset password

    Hi

I already know my password for Ankiweb, but I think that Anki must be
wanting a different one.   Hope you can make sense of my mess-up.

    Anyway, this is the code:-

    Syncing failed:

Sorry - another screenshot so you can see the decks I'm actually working
on to compare them with the ones on Anki

That error indicates you are using an old version of Anki which is not supported anymore. Please, see Anki 2.0 support has ended

    1. Backup your collection (anki directory)
    2. And download the latest version from https://apps.ankiweb.net/

Thanks. When you say that I should back up my collection, are you referring to the decks in Sankey, all the decks in Anki web? I’ve no interest in the decks in Anki, but I am using the Anki web decks.
    Thank you

I mean only the collection you have locally on your computer. The collection you have on the web is already backup automatically.

I’m afraid I don’t fully understand what you are saying. Yes, I am aware that the Ankiweb decks are backed up. However unless I can sync them with the actual Anki app what is the point of having paid for Anki.?
I don’t understand your first sentence.

The anki application on your computer has a copy of your collection. I was suggesting to backup that directory: Managing Files and Your Collection

    Hi Kate,

If the decks you want to keep are on AnkiWeb, please ignore the comment about backing up your computer decks. What you'll need to do is:

    • drag the old Anki.app file to the trash
    • install the latest Anki version from https://apps.ankiweb.net by opening the .dmg and dragging the icon to your Applications folder
    • run it from the Applications folder, and click on sync
    • after entering in your login details, choose "download" on the first sync

    That worked!

    Thanks very much, Damien
