Anki considers my LaTeX template 'empty cards'

I've created a really simple note type, called formula2, which should create two-way cards to study math formulas.
The template looks like this:

Front

[latex]
... = {{right side}}
[/latex]
Back
[latex]
{{left side}} = {{left side}}
[/latex]

However, when I want to study these cards, Anki tells me that my notes are empty and I should remove them.

Why doesn't it see my LaTeX formulas?

    As mentioned in the manual, media references need to be in fields, not on the template.
