More "new" cards than what I added

I have been using Anki for awhile now and recently (within that last 1.5 weeks) I have been adding notecards and waiting to review them until the next day. When I go to study the next day, I have more "new" cards than I added the day before. In addition, some cards that I have added are not showing up until days later. I have not changed my settings within this time. My deck "refreshes" every morning at 1am, while I am asleep. Please let me know if you know what this could be.

Thank you so much for your help!

    Hi Madeline,

Some note types (like cloze, image occlusion, etc) create multiple cards for each input - for example if you create two cloze occlusions on a piece of text, that will result in two cards.

Okay that makes sense. But, for example, this morning I was doing my cards
and there were 3 cards that I added last Friday that I had never seen until
today. One was from a pre-made deck and the other 2 were ones that I made
myself. All of them were "Basic" cards. Do you know why these cards may
    have been delayed?

Are you sure they weren't seen before? You can locate them in the Browse screen, then check the Cards>Info menu item to see the review history.

Yes, I'm positive I've never seen them before.

Assuming your new cards/day setting is high enough and the cards weren't unsuspended by you, I'm afraid I'm not sure. I suggest keeping an eye out to see if it happens again, and trying to spot a pattern if it does.
