Importing an existing deck with new voice overs

I've been using Anki for about 2 hours a day to learn a new language. A native speaker was kind enough to record the audio for a deck that I have a lot of vocabulary for. My problem is that on reimporting or loading the new deck with audio that the audio doesn't play.

How can I overwrite the existing cards without affecting my scheduling?

Is your problem that audio has never played and you can't figure out why, or that you're trying to replace audio?

My problem is that the audio was only recently added (by an intern at Goethe Institut). So, the cards are all the same, but now have audio for the German words.

I've been training these words for over a month, so do not want to lose the training and scheduling data, but would like the new cards to be imported. I hope that makes sense.

I had a text only deck, I trained on it for quite some time, I exported this deck, someone recorded the German phrases for pronunciation, now I want to reimport - adding the audio, but not losing training/scheduling regimen.

So the question is, can I import a deck, but only adding new audio data?

If you import as text and the first field matches, it will update the other
    fields and keep scheduling information.

So, I could switch cards (if first field contains the audio) and then
import. I'll try that. Thank you for clearing that up.

I think the problem is that the first field actually now contains the sound recording.

I tried flipping the fields and then importing but I'm having no luck with that either.

Would appreciate if you could have a look - decks are identical except for having a sound file link in first field.

    I've also tried

    1) Repositioning the German field to be in position two (since you say field one should stay the same)
    2) Importing after this doesn't update the cards

I'm using Anki 2.0.8 on linux if that helps. I've tried a straight import of new deck over old deck - doesn't seem to work, also tried exporting and reimporting the old and new deck and flipping the field so that the 1st field stays the same as you suggested, and also couldn't get this to function.

Sorry for this non-standard use case, just thought upgrading cards would be a lot easier.

How about just renaming the new files to match the filenames of the old
ones? Then it should work without doing anything at all in Anki.

The checking of the first field only applies to text imports, not apkg imports. If you have an apkg you will need to export it to a text file using a temporary profile then import it back into your main profile.

Soren - there were no media files earlier - so I don't see how the logic applies there. The deck was text only (Old4.apkg) and now hass voice added (New4.apkg)

Damien - I'll give that a try - can I salvage my training data using your suggestion?

If you do the text import, it will not overwrite your scheduling data. If
you're nervous, you can always back up your collection first.

Sorry for not being explicit that you needed to use text for it to work
    before.
