After upgrading to 2.2.23, I no longer get automatic filed fill-ins. In the following directions, I don't see where to click on "enable Chinese Support Redux" by clicking on 汉字。How do I enable? Can anyone help me?

--------------------------------------
To use the field-filling features:

Add a new note to Anki (press a)
Select Chinese (Basic) or Chinese (Advanced) as the note type
Enable Chinese Support Redux for this note type (click 汉字)
Enter a word (e.g., 電話) into the Hanzi field (sentences will also work)
Press Tab
The remaining fields should then be populated automatically

The add-on author has not been active lately, and has not updated the add-on to work with recent Anki versions. The easiest workaround for now would be to switch back to Anki 2.1.15

    HI Damien,
Thank you so much for replying. To go back to 2.1.1.5 Anki version, do
have to uninstall Anki and start over? I did try downloading the earlier
version 2.1.1.5, but the latest 2.2.23 keeps overriding it. If you have
directions for uninstalling Anki, that would be helpful. What I read
on-line seems rather complicated and I am afraid I will mess things up.
I have a Mac computer. If you have another way of getting back to 2.1.1.5
    version, please let me know.
    Again, thanks for your help.

You can drag the current .app to the trash, then open the older .dmg and drag the .app to your Applications folder. It won't delete your data, which is stored separately.

    HI Damien,
I dragged the 2.1.23 version to the trash and also permanently deleted it
from the trash. I also searched my Mac folders to see if there was any
trace of version 2.1.23. I could not detect any. [However, I suspect
a trace of 2.1.23 may be lurking somewhere and I cannot find it! I read
somewhere if there is a trace, the newer version will still override the
older version. I don't know if this is the case in my situation.]

    Then I re-installed version 2.1.15.
When I tried to add a vocabulary word to my Chinese deck, the fields still
    will not automatically fill in.

I searched on the Internet for how to uninstall the Anki app but it was for
version *2.0.26* and I had installed version 2.1.23.

    https://uninstallmacapp.com/anki-2-0-26-removal.html Anyway, this site
says to download the Mac App Remover. Do you think I need to do this?

    Thanks for your help!

You don't need any external software to remove Anki - everything is located in the .app. You can check the version you are running in the Anki>About menu item while the main window is visible. Perhaps you need to install the add-on again?

    HI Damien,
I got a popup notice that the 2.1.29 Anki version has been released. My
question is -- will this version be ok now? I had previously downloaded
the 2.2.23 updated version, but then the fields would not automatically
fill in. Then I had a very difficult time downgrading back to the earlier
version 2.1.15. But ANKI still does not operate properly. While it will
give me the Chinese [Mandarin] pronunciation for words, I have to manually
type in the word meanings in English. It does not automatically fill in
the English translation of the Mandarin characters or words.

I would appreciate any advice you can give me.
    Thanks!
    Libby

The add-on author has not published a supported version, so if you want to be safe I'd recommend avoiding updating for now.

(regarding any issues you're experiencing with the add-on, please report them to the add-on author - I have no experience with it myself)

    HI Damien,
Thanks for the quick reply. You had mentioned that I could contact the
author of the add-on due to my issue with the 2.1.15 Anki version not
automatically filling in the "meaning" field. Are you able to provide me
with the author's contact information so I can explain my issue and
    hopefully resolve it?

    Thanks so much.
